Queering The Frontline is a multimedia storytelling and advocacy initiative spotlighting activists across diverse identities, backgrounds and contexts actively defending and redefining democracy

Reimagining who leads the change

Queering the Frontline is a multimedia storytelling and advocacy project by Commonground Initiatives that brings visibility to the often-overlooked people shaping democratic change from the ground up.

Centering women, queer people, and individuals from underrepresented identities and communities, the project explores how grassroots changemakers challenge traditional notions of leadership, power, and political participation through everyday acts of care, solidarity, resistance, and community building.

Through intimate interviews, photography, and participatory storytelling, Queering the Frontline documents the lived experiences, motivations, struggles, and aspirations of those working on the frontlines of democratic renewal.

By bringing these stories into focus, the project seeks to challenge dominant narratives about who leads change, recognise the often-invisible labour sustaining community life, and expand our collective imagination of what democracy looks like, who shapes it, and where it begins.
